Congress’s Satyagraha: In protest of Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lok Sabha, the Congress is organizing a day-long “Satyagraha” in front of Gandhi statues in all states and district headquarters on Sunday in solidarity with him. The satyagraha will take place between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
However, the Delhi authorities have denied the Congress party permission to protest at Rajgat. Police cited traffic management as the reason for denying permission and enforcing Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code in the area.
Despite the restrictions, senior Congress leaders including Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, KC Venugopal, and Jairam Ramesh have arrived at Raj Ghat for the mass protest.The status on Rahul Gandhi’s Twitter account has been updated to read “Disqualified MP.”
The protest is in response to Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification as a member of the Lok Sabha following his conviction in a 2019 defamation case. He has been sentenced to two years in prison for a remark he made during a rally in Kolar, Karnataka, ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in which he asked, “Why do all thieves have the Modi surname?”

Meanwhile, a combative Rahul Gandhi stated on Saturday that he will continue to defend democracy in the country even if he is disqualified from Parliament for life or imprisoned, and that his disqualification has given the opposition a “big weapon.” Ravi Shankar Prasad, a senior BJP leader, retaliated by claiming that Rahul Gandhi insulted the backward community and that his 2019 defamatory remarks led to his conviction in a defamation case.
