In the aftermath of the tropical storm’s destruction, survivors were trapped and forced to fight for their lives. As search and rescue efforts continue, the authorities reported that over 30 people from Chilobwe, one of the hardest-hit areas, have perished and dozens remain missing.
On Monday, people were seen using shovels and even their bare hands to scour the rubble for survivors. Dorothy Wachepa, a mother of four, told the media that she awoke to a deafening sound “resembling the sound of an aeroplane.”

“Around 12 o’clock, I heard the sound accompanied by shouting from people in the hills,” she explained. The mountain was then descended by a torrent of murky water, accompanied by boulders and trees. All of her belongings were washed away.

The risk of severe flooding and damaging winds remains extremely high, according to the weather report. media, citing Radio Mozambique, reported that at least 10 persons were killed and 13 injured in the Zambezia province of Mozambique.
