Bernie Sanders will not run for president, endorses Biden bid for re-election

Senator Bernie Sanders, a former two-time presidential candidate, announced on Tuesday that he supports President Biden’s re-election bid and will not run for president a third time, according to media reports.

Senator Bernie Sanders, a former two-time presidential candidate, announced on Tuesday that he supports President Biden’s re-election bid and will not run for president a third time, according to media reports.

Media reported that Biden announced earlier in the day that he would seek a second term despite polls indicating that the majority of Americans and Democrats do not want him to run again.

Media reported that Sanders said he would “do everything in my power to ensure the president’s reelection” and warned against a victory by former President Trump or another Republican.

Sanders was quoted as saying, “The last thing this country needs is a Donald Trump or other right-wing demagogue who will attempt to undermine American democracy, take away a woman’s right to choose, or fail to address the crisis of gun violence, racism, sexism, or homophobia.” Therefore, I will do what I can to ensure the President’s reelection.

Sanders predicted Biden would be the Democratic nominee on Election Day, stating that his and the progressive movement’s responsibility was “to ensure that [Biden] fights for the working class of this country and does not take anything for granted.”

Media reported that Sanders, a socialist who has served in Congress for decades as a member of both the House and the Senate, was the runner-up for the Democratic presidential nominations in both 2016 and 2020 and has garnered a large following among the progressive wing of the Democratic Party since entering the national stage.
