Indian-Origin UK Man Murders Father With Champagne Bottle, Gets Life Sentence

In north London, 54-year-old Deekan Paul Singh Vig was found for the murder his father by breaking a champagne bottle over his head.

London: An Indian-born man who was convicted of killing his father in north London by breaking a champagne bottle over his head was given a life sentence.
Deekan Paul Singh Vig, 54, was found guilty following a trial at the Old Bailey court last month. On Friday, he was scheduled to be evaluated for parole at the same court after receiving a sentence of at least 18 years.

Deekan Paul Singh Vig’s family has been devastated by his acts, and they must continue to mourn their loved one’s passing as he does time in prison for his crimes, according to Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley of the Metropolitan Police, who oversaw the murder investigation.

At Southgate, north London, where police were called to a disturbance in October 2021, Vig’s father, 86-year-old Arjan Singh Vig, reportedly shared a residence with him, according to the Met Police. Arjan was declared dead at the scene despite the efforts of rescue responders, according to the police.

The cause of death was determined by a post-mortem investigation to be blunt force injuries to the head, according to the police.

The tribunal later heard how Arjan’s body was discovered with his “head caved in” by police in his son’s bedroom, on the floor.

The “Evening Standard” newspaper said that his kid was nude and surrounded by roughly 100 bottles of Champagne, some of which were blood-stained.

I murdered my father. He allegedly said, “I whacked him over the head with a f***ing bloody bottle of Bollinger champagne.
Jurors learned that Vig had resided in their four-bedroom home for almost 40 years with his biologist mother Damanjit Vig, 85, and his accountant father, Damanjit Vig. When Vig was five years old, the family left Uganda for the UK when Idi Amin ordered the expulsion of the South Asian population from the east African nation.

Vig acknowledged to consuming 500ml of whisky earlier that evening, having become used to alcohol during the COVID lockdown, according to testimony given in court.

Police discovered 100 champagne bottles at the crime scene, 10 whisky delivery boxes from Amazon, and an empty Talisker Scotch bottle on the bed.

On the second day of his trial, Vig accepted manslaughter after first denying murder on the grounds that he had not intended to kill his father seriously.
But, after less than a day of deliberation, the jury found him guilty of murder.
