The situation became more volatile, which led to scuffles with the police, which in turn resulted in the injury of over a dozen law enforcement officers.

The situation became more volatile, which led to scuffles with the police and ultimately resulted in the injury of almost a dozen law enforcement officers while they were on the job. As a result of the chaos, a number of vehicles, including police vehicles, sustained damage.

The crowd may be seen on video throwing stones at vehicles and causing damage to them. Lathi charges were used by the police in an effort to gain control of the situation and disperse the mob.

The deputy commissioner of police, Harendra Kumar Singh, stated, “Roughly 10,000 to 15,000 people participated in ‘tazia’ processions, with some participants becoming disorderly. They desired to deviate from the traffic police-determined routes. When we attempted to halt them, they began throwing stones, and the police responded with a lathi charge. Multiple police officers were injured, and police vehicles were also vandalised.”

“The group was broken up. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing,” he added.

In preparation for the Muharram procession, the Delhi Traffic Police issued a traffic advisory intended to regulate the flow of traffic in central and New Delhi. The advisory, which was in effect from Friday evening to Saturday morning, covered 32 segments in these regions. In order to facilitate the movement of Tazia processions, the traffic authorities diverted vehicles from 16 other locations in central, New Delhi, and south Delhi.
