Ukraine updates: US announces $400 million in military aid – DW – 11/10/2022

Washington: The United States announced a new security package plan, including the authorization of a Presidential Drawdown of security assistance worth up to USD 425 million and USD 1.75 billion in Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) funds, according to a statement issued by the US Defence Department.

The programme was funded by 425 million dollars from current Defense Department reserves and 1.75 billion dollars from the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative. The current package represents USD 29.3 billion granted to Ukraine since Russia’s military action began in February of last year.

Since 2014, the United States has provided Ukraine with more than USD 32 billion in security aid, including more than USD 29.3 billion since Russia’s unjustified, full-scale invasion began on February 24, 2022 “conform to the statement.

In addition, the United States will continue to collaborate with its allies and partners to provide Ukraine with the tools necessary to address its immediate battlefield demands as well as its longer-term security assistance requirements.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken declared in a statement that the United States will provide Ukraine, European allies, and partners with about $3.75 billion in military support in the first week of January.

Blinken is reported in the release as saying, “This assistance comprises a USD 2.85 billion drawdown from Department of Defense stocks to be provided immediately to Ukraine and USD 225 million in Foreign Military Financing to enhance Ukraine’s long-term capabilities and support its military modernization.”

He continued, “It also contains USD 682 million in Foreign Military Financing for European partners and friends to assist in incentivizing and compensating for donations of military equipment to Ukraine.”

In its announcement on Friday, the United States included vital air defence capabilities to assist Ukraine in defending its citizens, as well as armoured infantry vehicles and additional equipment that Ukraine uses so effectively, such as Javelin anti-tank missiles, artillery ammunition, and conventional and long-range rockets for US-supplied HIMARS.
