Tomorrow, all schools in Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Palghar will remain closed due to excessive rainfall, announced chief minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for areas of the city that will experience significant rainfall.
“Considering the safety of the students, the Municipal Corporation has declared a holiday for tomorrow, July 20th, for all primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools (Nursery through Class 12) in the Mumbai Metropolitan Area,” a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official said.
Several regions of the western state have been issued a “orange alert,” indicating a significant risk of precipitation.
In response to the ongoing flooding in multiple districts of Maharashtra, Shinde visited the control room of the department of disaster management to assess the situation. During his visit, he monitored the flood-prone regions of Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, Satara, and Gadchiroli closely.
During a meeting with emergency agencies, such as the national disaster response force (NDRF), state disaster response force (SDRF), and municipal corporations, the prime minister ensured that all units were on high alert and actively engaged in rescue operations.
