Gujarat floods: Amit Shah reviews situation, assures presence of ample rescue teams

Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel on Sunday

Amit Shah, the union home minister, spoke with Gujarat’s chief minister, Bhupendra Patel, on Sunday and assessed the flood-like conditions in Junagadh and other areas of the state brought on by severe rainfall.

Following his conversations with Patel and Delhi’s lieutenant governor, V K Saxena, Shah tweeted that there are enough of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) members available to assist those in need.

In districts impacted by severe rainfall, a total of nine teams from the NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) and the SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) have been dispatched. In Junagadh, the NDRF and SDRF each have two teams working on rescue and relief efforts.

After a flash flood struck havoc in the city, Junagadh, which received around nine inches of rain between 10 am and 4 pm on Saturday, is one of the worst-hit areas.

In a statement made on Saturday, Gujarat Relief Commissioner Alok Pandey stated that a total of 736 people were evacuated to safer areas and that about 358 individuals were rescued from various sites throughout the state.
