PM Modi inaugurates HAL helicopter factory in Karnataka’s Tumakuru.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated India’s largest HAL helicopter factory in Karnataka’s Tumakuru district.

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the Light Utility Helicopter and officially opened the Helicopter Factory of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) at Tumakuru, which is located in the state of Karnataka.
The Minister of Defense, Rajnath Singh, as well as the Chief Minister, Basavaraj Bommai, were both present at the event.
It is a completely new factory built from the ground up specifically for the production of HAL helicopter, which will significantly increase both the capacity and the ecosystem for producing helicopters.

This helicopter manufacturing facility, which is the largest of its kind in Asia, will first focus on the production of Light Utility Helicopters (LUH). According to information provided to the government on Saturday, LUH is an indigenously designed and developed single-engine multifunctional utility helicopter in the 3-ton class that possesses the distinctive characteristic of high manoeuvrability.

In the future, the plant will undergo expansion so that it may produce new types of helicopters, such as the Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) and the Indian Multirole Helicopter (IMRH), in addition to being used for the maintenance and overhaul of LCH, LUH, Civil ALH, and IMRH aircraft. In the future, there is also the possibility that the factory will be able to export the Civil LUHs.

This facility will enable India to satisfy its total requirement of indigenous helicopters and will achieve the distinction of enabling India to be self-sufficient in the design, development, and manufacture of helicopters.

The manufacturing process at the factory will adhere to the requirements of Industry 4.0. More than one thousand helicopters with a payload ranging from three to fifteen tonnes are going to be manufactured at HAL’s Tumakuru facility during the next two decades. This will result in approximately 6,000 individuals in the region gaining employment as a direct consequence.
